Auditions & Self-Tapes

Six self-tapes this month, zero responses. Is that normal or is my tape bad?

Genuine question, not a vent. I cannot tell the difference between "this is the normal ratio" and "something about my tapes is getting them closed after ten seconds".

How would I even find out which it is?

Six is nothing. My ratio in a good year is something like sixty tapes to one booking, and I have been doing this a long time.

The way to find out is to have someone who is not your friend watch three of them back to back and tell you what they see. Not whether they liked it. What they saw.

No response is the default, not a signal. Offices do not have the staff to reply to people they are not booking. Silence carries almost no information.

That said, the ten second thing is real. If the first line is not landing, nothing after it gets watched. I would look hard at how each tape opens.

Track them in a spreadsheet with the role, the date and the type. After forty you will start to see whether you are being seen for things you are genuinely right for, which is a more useful question.
