Currently taping against my bedroom wall which is a slightly yellow white. Should I fix that first or is it the least of my problems?

Mid gray or a muted blue. The yellow wall is going to fight your skin tone and make the whole tape look amateur even when the performance is good.

It is not the least of your problems but it is the cheapest to fix. Ten dollars of fabric.

Whatever you pick, make sure you are far enough off it that you are not casting a shadow on it. That is the more common mistake.

Blue reads slightly more theatrical, gray is neutral and safe. I have used the same gray for six years.
