Ongoing class near me is 300 a month. Rent is most of what I earn. I do not see the math working and I am starting to think everyone doing this has family money.

A lot of them do have family money and it is not talked about enough. But not all, and there are ways.

Ask the studio about work-study. Most of the decent ones will let you do admin or reception in exchange for class and they do not advertise it.

Every studio I have taught at had two or three students on work-study and nobody in the room knew which ones. Just ask, quietly, in person.

Also worth considering a class that meets twice a month instead of weekly, or a scene study group that runs itself for the cost of a room. Not everything has to be a branded studio.

I did three years of a free peer group in somebody's living room before I could afford a real class. It was not as good but it was not nothing, and I kept working.
