Headshots: 300 or 1200, what am I actually getting for the difference?

Both photographers have portfolios I like.

    At the top end you are paying for direction, not the camera. A good photographer gets a different face out of you, and that is the entire product.

    Look at their galleries and ask whether every subject looks like a different person or whether they all look like the photographer's style. The second is a bad sign.

    Ask what happens if you hate them. A reshoot policy tells you a lot about how confident they are.

    Photographer, so take this how you like: there are excellent people at 400 and mediocre people at 1500. Price correlates loosely at best. Referrals from actors at your level are the real signal.

    The 300 one is a fine choice if you are early and your type is going to move in a year anyway.
