Yes, but rarely, and almost never off the letter alone. The ones that work have something attached that makes opening it worthwhile.

Forty letters with a two reply rate is roughly what I would expect. It is a numbers game with terrible numbers.

The version that works is a letter that says "I am in this thing you can watch, at this festival, and here is the ninety seconds of it that is me". A letter about your hopes does not.

Referrals convert at maybe fifty times the rate of cold outreach. Every hour spent making the letter better is an hour better spent meeting someone who could make the introduction.

I got mine off a cold email in 2015. It happens. But I had a short in a real festival attached to it.
