If you found it in a "best audition monologues" list, it is overdone. That is a reliable test.

Overdone matters less than people say. They are watching you, not the writing. But you are starting from behind if they have heard it eleven times today.

Look for something from a play that is good but not famous, or from a writer who is working now. Contemporary and unfamiliar is the sweet spot.

Two minutes maximum, and cut it yourself so it has a shape. Most people perform an excerpt rather than a piece.
