Yes, and mostly for the selection rather than the cutting. A good editor tells you which forty seconds of your footage is actually good, and you cannot see that yourself.

If your footage is genuinely strong, a rough cut is fine and nobody cares. If your footage is mixed, the editing is what saves it.

Do not let them put a montage with music at the front. It is the most reliable way to make a reel look dated.
