Feeling stupid/silly by Blackturtleneckgirl  •  last post Apr 1st

when i watch monologues or theatre i feel incredibly inspired and almost in awe of many actors. But when I think about doing it myself I feel like it's just silly. This is holding me back incredibly from acting, i've recently began. To add, I've been in a creative rut for years now, I'm only 25 and want to move forward. But i'm so afraid to let go. To the point where if I was in a class or decided to try drama school I'm afraid I'd just hold back and feel so deeply insecure or silly or like the worst actor ever. Has anyone started off with similar feelings regarding acting?

Role under 18 by Blazerdog1  •  last post Apr 1st

When two actors in a movie/show have a love interest but one of the actors are over 18 and you want to audition for the other love interest role but you are under 18. Is it still possible to get the role? Sorry if this didn't make sense, it's hard to explain.

Best scene study and audition classes in Los Angeles? by ZaxMarquee  •  last post Apr 1st

I previously took a meisner intensive with Michelle Danner, and a month of Ivanna Chubbucks class. My agent is really pushing for me to take an audition and scene study class, so do my fellow actors in LA have any solid recommendations for studios that are NOT money suckers hahaha?

Questions about getting into acting by Livelordx_lol  •  last post Mar 31st

Hello everyone, A buddy of mine is an actor who gets gigs here and there in the surrounding areas of where I live. He stated for me to get started into acting I needed headshots and agents, but first the headshots. So I've completed the headshots part, I've got a solid 10 photos to start with, and including a comp card. I've also reached out to a couple agents that my buddy uses and recommended to me via email and submitted my headshots but I haven't gotten a return email or phone call. Using the tools on the sidebar, I've created an account with ActorsAccess and Backstage. Playing around with those websites I see that I can submit my application to get roles but most require a demo reel or a resume. I don't have any acting experience aside from what I did in high school. What else am I missing that I can do or SHOULD do to keep going?

What are the best part-time jobs for actors? by KryptoniteByNight  •  last post Mar 31st

I'm interested in knowing if most professional actors here work part-time jobs outside of acting? If you're full-time, how long did it take to get there? If you're part-time, what do you guys do outside of acting?

Acting Classes in Los Angeles by ZaxMarquee  •  last post Mar 31st

Howdy guys, I’ve recently moved to LA to pursue acting after a stint in private equity and I’m at a crossroads. When I first got to LA I took classes at Michelle Danner studios and then at Ivana Chubbuck. While they were okay, these classes seemed to me like money suckers, only attracting many international students who just wanted to get a student visa out of the program. Additionally, a problem with both these classes was that I didn’t get to perform every class, which is felt was a ripoff. Do my fellow actors in LA have any good recommendations as to some good class experiences you’ve had?

Demo reels are wanted, yet so hard to make??! by ohemgeenah  •  last post Mar 31st

So, I’m a young actress just trying to make myself a reel, but I feel like I’m making it much harder than it actually is. I have TV credits with Chicago Fire & NBC’s Crisis along with a couple commercials. However, I was only able to get my episodes of these TV shows from iTunes and every single program I’ve been using to screen record completely crashes or just doesn’t record when I use the iTunes episodes. Is there a better way to: 1) Get your work in a downloadable (and editable) file? 2) What programs should I be using??? I’m trying to submit to agencies and I just want to make a good impression. Help a girl out!

How can an Asian American get into acting? by reallyuglyasianguy  •  last post Mar 31st

I am an Asian who has never acted in my entire life in a formal play, however I am consistently told by people I should be an actor because I can method act and play different characters really easily (combination of ADHD and multiple personality disorder). However, I am in college studying computer science and I just don't know how I would get started. Can someone help? Thanks

Any aspiring actors from Europe? by hopingtobehappy  •  last post Mar 31st

Hi! My first post here. I really want to get into drama school, since it's the best way to get considered. How did you get auditions?

Need a Demo Reel? by Ashton  •  last post Mar 30th

Hey Guys and Gals, I've been a freelance Editor and Director of Photography for about 13 years now. I know how crucial reel's are for actors, it's the same for us. I would love to edit or work with you on shooting your reel. Pricing is very reasonable, and I'm...

Has Talent Link worked for anyone? by ihavetowatermyplants  •  last post Mar 30th

I'm beginning my acting career in Texas by geoffsykes  •  last post Mar 30th

Are you an actor with a memorable tip for a Texan? I'm looking for some advice for someone like me beginning their career in the Dallas area. Here are a few things to know about me: - I have experience on stage and on camera ([My resume](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SpI_Mru_3sHroonhMDWDnJcOvdtEGTtQ/view?usp=sharing)) - I recently had some professional headshots taken ([example](https://imgur.com/a/Nyncv)) - I am registered on [Backstage.com](http://backstage.com) and [MyCastingFile.com](http://mycastingfile.com) and have been getting a few responses. - I'm primarily interested in television, film, and commercials. There are 10 or so SAG/AFTRA agencies in the DFW area and I think 5 or 6 might be a good fit for me, so I'm preparing a couple of monologues for when I start submitting. I want to know if anyone has some tips for booking more gigs, getting noticed, or getting signed to an agency.

Is 28 too old to start? by ohHaiMark11  •  last post Mar 30th

This is strictly an opinion thread. Was having a discussion with a friend this afternoon and he wants to get into film. He thinks he's too old to get started now. I gave him my opinion(which was I personally don't think it's "too old"). He is definitely gonna give it a shot but is torn between just starting from scratch or getting into a 4 year degree program. What do y'all think? Was hoping for a multitude of advice so I can show him this and give him examples of actors all over the world. Networking for him won't be an issue.

should I include source material for an audition to an acting program? by mirrorsarereflective  •  last post Mar 30th

hi guys, random. do i include the source material for my audition to an acting program? they never specified, they just said it should be a scene of no more than 3 pages long. reasons why i want to hide the source material is because I don't want any comparisons to be made with me to the actor in the film. the film is an indie film, but obviously the materials exist online if you really look into it. the actors in it are pretty well-known (not oscar nominees though).

I feel like a failure... by mcleb014  •  last post Mar 30th

The other night, my parents told me that I should give up on acting. I've been doing it for nearly ten years and it is the only thing I have ever done and love. The problem is that I have never made any money from it. I know comparing yourself to others is toxic, but it is hard to go on Facebook and see your peers killing it while you are not. I do not think I'm a bad actor. I am afraid of putting myself out there and getting rejected. Putting all of my little money and energy into something that I probably won't get. All of my teachers say that I'm good and I have potential, but I am at the point where I'm ready to call it quits. I'm 26, I live at home with my folks still, just graduated from college, I have a terrible job, barely making money, and I do not know what to do. A part of me is screaming to give it up and get a full-time job. But the worst part is that I feel like I've accomplished nothing in my career. I am returning to my alma mater in a few weeks for a showcase that I'm participating in, but I feel like I'm not good enough.I've spent the last year preparing for this day, and I feel like I'm not going to do good. I didn't expect to ramble for this long, but I don't know where else to go. My friends aren't actors, and I sure as hell don't want to bug any of my teachers. Anybody else in this boat? Advice?

Foreign actor moving to LA. What month is best to contact agents? by Anonactor  •  last post Mar 30th

Preface: I used to be based in LA on a visa. I'm returning with a green card. I have a decent reel with some recognizable credits. I recently signed with a new manager and I will be moving back to LA after living in my home country for a number of years. I am no longer with my old LA agent and I'll be looking to join a new one. I have heard pilot season is the worst time to contact anyone. As we're nearing the end of pilot season, and I'm moving over next month (may), is now a good time to reach out to people? Obviously there are no hard and fast rules, but if there was an ideal time, when would it be?

i dont feel like I can be productive as an actor in NYC AT ALL. it all honestly feels like a giant waste of time and money by whatever0971  •  last post Mar 30th

being unrepresented, it sucks. i have a decent reel, but no professional credits. i am union, but not aea. the self submission side of AA is basically nothing, and backstage is all shitty unpaid non union films. i'm at a loss here. i refuse to pay to play, and the agents that do those are not good agents anyway, but I have no idea how to "develop relationships with casting directors" if you can't meet them in the first place without paying $450 for a monthly "class". i mean honestly, this all seems like complete bullshit. all i'm doing is waiting tables barely scraping by each month, not even saving money. this all feels like a gigantic waste of time and I have no idea how to progress, or find paid indie work, or find an agent, or anything. what the hell am I missing here? like i dont get it
