Hey guys, wondering if anyone has had any success with Talent Link through Actors Access/Breakdown Services. If so, how long did responses take to get to you/can you say who you signed with? Thanks!
Are you an actor with a memorable tip for a Texan? I'm looking for some advice for someone like me beginning their career in the Dallas area. Here are a few things to know about me: - I have experience on stage and on camera ([My resume](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SpI_Mru_3sHroonhMDWDnJcOvdtEGTtQ/view?usp=sharing)) - I recently had some professional headshots taken ([example](https://imgur.com/a/Nyncv)) - I am registered on [Backstage.com](http://backstage.com) and [MyCastingFile.com](http://mycastingfile.com) and have been getting a few responses. - I'm primarily interested in television, film, and commercials. There are 10 or so SAG/AFTRA agencies in the DFW area and I think 5 or 6 might be a good fit for me, so I'm preparing a couple of monologues for when I start submitting. I want to know if anyone has some tips for booking more gigs, getting noticed, or getting signed to an agency.
This is strictly an opinion thread. Was having a discussion with a friend this afternoon and he wants to get into film. He thinks he's too old to get started now. I gave him my opinion(which was I personally don't think it's "too old"). He is definitely gonna give it a shot but is torn between just starting from scratch or getting into a 4 year degree program. What do y'all think? Was hoping for a multitude of advice so I can show him this and give him examples of actors all over the world. Networking for him won't be an issue.
hi guys, random. do i include the source material for my audition to an acting program? they never specified, they just said it should be a scene of no more than 3 pages long. reasons why i want to hide the source material is because I don't want any comparisons to be made with me to the actor in the film. the film is an indie film, but obviously the materials exist online if you really look into it. the actors in it are pretty well-known (not oscar nominees though).
The other night, my parents told me that I should give up on acting. I've been doing it for nearly ten years and it is the only thing I have ever done and love. The problem is that I have never made any money from it. I know comparing yourself to others is toxic, but it is hard to go on Facebook and see your peers killing it while you are not. I do not think I'm a bad actor. I am afraid of putting myself out there and getting rejected. Putting all of my little money and energy into something that I probably won't get. All of my teachers say that I'm good and I have potential, but I am at the point where I'm ready to call it quits. I'm 26, I live at home with my folks still, just graduated from college, I have a terrible job, barely making money, and I do not know what to do. A part of me is screaming to give it up and get a full-time job. But the worst part is that I feel like I've accomplished nothing in my career. I am returning to my alma mater in a few weeks for a showcase that I'm participating in, but I feel like I'm not good enough.I've spent the last year preparing for this day, and I feel like I'm not going to do good. I didn't expect to ramble for this long, but I don't know where else to go. My friends aren't actors, and I sure as hell don't want to bug any of my teachers. Anybody else in this boat? Advice?
Preface: I used to be based in LA on a visa. I'm returning with a green card. I have a decent reel with some recognizable credits. I recently signed with a new manager and I will be moving back to LA after living in my home country for a number of years. I am no longer with my old LA agent and I'll be looking to join a new one. I have heard pilot season is the worst time to contact anyone. As we're nearing the end of pilot season, and I'm moving over next month (may), is now a good time to reach out to people? Obviously there are no hard and fast rules, but if there was an ideal time, when would it be?
being unrepresented, it sucks. i have a decent reel, but no professional credits. i am union, but not aea. the self submission side of AA is basically nothing, and backstage is all shitty unpaid non union films. i'm at a loss here. i refuse to pay to play, and the agents that do those are not good agents anyway, but I have no idea how to "develop relationships with casting directors" if you can't meet them in the first place without paying $450 for a monthly "class". i mean honestly, this all seems like complete bullshit. all i'm doing is waiting tables barely scraping by each month, not even saving money. this all feels like a gigantic waste of time and I have no idea how to progress, or find paid indie work, or find an agent, or anything. what the hell am I missing here? like i dont get it
Folks, my team and I are shooting a sizzle reel this Sat March 31st in Burbank, 8 AM - 1 PM. The intention is to use this sizzle reel to raise funds for the actual feature. We are looking for a male actor, can be late 20s to early 40s, Arab or Arab looking. Role has no lines. Paid gig - $50. If interested or have questions, send me a private message.
Hi guys. When I say weak choice, I'm not talking about bad acting, I'm talking about when you are able to deliver the text with proper intonation and emotion, but the character choice is weak? I hate the idea of strong vs weak characters, since they are all characters, but lets pretend we are talking about J-law in Winter's Bone or in Silver Linings Playbook, or Timothee Chalamet in Call Me By Your Name? I feel like these characters are played close to reality, and they aren't larger than life, nor are they as bold as lets say Margot Robbie in "I Tonya" or Emma Stone in Birdman. I don't know, like some sides are given without any direction or background of the characters. It leaves the script pretty open to interpretation if you know what I mean? Let's pretend you disagree with all the movies and actors I've listed... well the best example I can think of is Blake Lively's "Gossip Girl" audition on youtube. I am not saying her acting is weak, because obviously her acting is good, but the character seemed very nice and sweet. Nothing bold or memorable.... I understand she probably received notes on how the character should be like, but lets pretend we didn't get those notes. would that be a weak choice to play it as a nice and sweet girl? I'm sending an audition to a school, which is why I don't know if it's a good idea to play a character who is nice and sweet.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT AN ACTOR AND HAVE NEVER ACTED IN MY LIFE. My friend is a film student and I volunteered to play the main role for an 8 minute film for his class(so no pressure really). He's directing the film and I have been doing amateur fashion photography for 2 years now, so I understanding framing, editing and am not afraid of being in front of the camera, but I am lost for this role. If I just ask a lot of questions and rehearse my lines I should be fine, right? haha. But if you could re-do your first ever role, what would you do differently? I need some pointers.
Hey fellow actors. So I will be in an upcoming show and I’m not sure I’m connected with my character enough. I know with rehearsing and practicing the craft this issue will go away. But I was just wondering, what are some things you all do to prepare yourself for a character?
Firstly, I apologize if I’m unaware, I’m a new user. I’ve had many accounts over the years but never really got the hang of it. Anyway, my high school’s spring musical is only about a week out. We’re doing Oklahoma and I’m casted as Curly. I feel like I’m doing better and better by the day but I didn’t know there would be any final tips to get me up to the next level. I feel like if none of the other leads are actively trying to get better, it holds back the one actor who is really pushing it. Last year I played Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast and the comedic role suited me very well. This one has taken some getting used to, but I think I’m ready. Thank you
Hello there, Professional actor working in London, UK (Canadian Citizen) and will be coming back to Canada to persue a professional career. I don't use a CV typically as our main Casting Website has all the information CDs require. I'm getting murmurs about updating resumes, but in a the era of digital age, is it relevant anymore? Id love to hear your thoughts.
random reddit person, I know, but i've been trying to find a person to do this with for a long time and none of my actor friends in NYC have any interest in moving to LA, mainly becuase they are here for musical theatre, and i'm all about tv/film. anyway, i'm a 30 year old male, SAG, plenty of indie/low budget film experience trying to take the next step. i lived in LA when I was younger and less experienced and had studios for $800-900 so i know they're doable. but, i've learned that its all about keeping your expenses as low as humanely possible, so that you can really be available 24/7 to take advantage of every single acting opportunity, whether that be a networking event at SAG-AFTRA foundation, student film, or even an exercise working for free. that means only working part-time, as little as possible just to cover rent / expenses. it would also be cool to have a permanent self-tape set up in the apartment so that we could both help each other out, as at least for me, in the past when I had reps, the vast majority of auditions were self-tapes. anyway, if anybody is interested, I'm in NYC right now and would be looking to move to LA either May 1st or June 1st. If we're splitting a studio for, say $1000, then you figure $2500 max to move in, divided by 2 is $1250. then either a one way plane ticket or drive across the country, which i'll probably be doing. why pay $800 for a bedroom when you can pay $500 for rent and save money? that's what i've learned. anyway, if anybody is interested, reply here or shoot me a PM and i'll send you a link to my website / imdb so you can see i'm a real, legit person, and chill as fuck, if I might add. cheers!
Hey everyone,
I'm directing a play/theater production at my college and have run into a dilemma. The play requires a scene showing a strip club...it doesn't matter which, but it either has to be a male strip club or a female strip club. That means either a group of male actors is going to have to be in their boxers or a group of female actresses will have to be in bra and panties. It has to be one or the other, but I can't decide which would be best. The actors and actresses are pretty evenly split...with the guys wanting a female strip club scene and the girls wanting a male strip club scene. Some are arguing that a female strip club scene should be picked since it's the most common and the audience will probably be more comfortable with it. But others argue that it would be better to make the male actors strip down instead, that way the girls can keep their clothes on since women are usually more modest about their bodies. What do you think? If you were in my position and could only pick one...which would you pick? And why?
We’re in the most important week of the year for all Christians. And this year #internationaltheatreday falls right on it. 2 very important parts of my life. 2 very strong defining characteristics of my self and my life. And I just wanted to know, for any other “religious” people out there (catholic or not!) how do you match these 2 together? What are your most difficult things to juggle, to accept, and what experiences (good, bad, funny, hilarious, incredible, stereotypical, etc) have you had because of being a believer who is also an artist? I feel like sharing and knowing we’re not the only ones feeling/going through things is a massive help! So, thank youuuu!
Biggest role may refer to a major, well known character or a role where you'd be the lead or supporting actor for a major film/tv show.
