Does anyone know of any one off or two day (or in that range) acting WORKSHOPS in NYC? I really don't want to join a 8 week class or anything like that. But like a meetup for actors (I'm pretty new). I live on Long Island so if anyone knows any info out here either that'll be great...
So I am a middle-eastern-american actor, I am signed in my state but recently I had the privilege to read for an agent from LA - they really liked what I did but the only issue is that they would like me to have at least one credit that would make me SAG eligible. Does anyone have any leads or contacts for this? I am on sites such as AA of course and that is handles by my agent and I keep up w/ local FB groups for any projects, but it has proven a little difficult because I am not the stereotypical middle eastern look (bright eyes, etc). If anyone could help me out or give me any contacts it would be much appreciated - please comment or private message. Thank you.
I have to shoot a kissing scene with the actress of my student film this week. As per the scene, I drop her home after a dinner. Outside her house, we both have to kiss (smooch) each other. Since I am a lil nervous, how do I overcome my nervousness? Would it be okay if I ask her for a practice before the main shoot?

Hi all, I wanted to make a quick introduction post as well as ask some questions that have been brought up a lot lately for me. Hi there I'm an actor newly living in LA and loving the city so far! I've jumped into classes and auditions \(finally bit the bullet and bought a Backstage membership, which to me is TOTALLY worth it\) and have even booked some non\-paying jobs, which for just starting out I'm excited by so I can get some footage for a reel. Question time: social media. I've been recently trying to really use my social media to my advantage as far as connecting with people and getting some followers because... I saw and have heard a few times that the role will most likely go to the person with the most followers on social media. I'm wondering if this is true? If so.. that sucks BUT I understand business wise so my follow up question would be; any advice on how to get some more followers? Thanks so much!
Heya guys! I recently thought about getting a haircut like this, inspired by Alex Høgh Andersen (you might know him from the TV show Vikings) : https://i.pinimg.com/736x/a0/b4/37/a0b4375e13b6ec60fff40b7ed390fe63.jpg To the point though? Does anyone know if I am less likely to book a job in the future because I am less castable or I might not have enough hair on the sides for a specific character or role? I later just thought that having a head full of hair is what is really ideal to the business since it is versatile and whatever production you're in can change it to their accord. Am I making a fool of myself or should I just go for it?
So curious what it’s like trying to make it as an actor in LA. Tell me your story!
Hey, guys! I‘ve been submitting for gigs and I recently realized I had no idea what the differences are between some audition listings and ones highlighted in blue under a “Spotlight” tag. Can anyone...
I live in Morocco, and I'm 23. I did theater when I was a kid (from 3rd to 6th grade). When I moved to college I started studying film making. I want to move to the US for the sole purpose of pursuing an acting career, I don't really chase after the celebrity life-style (that kind of hype, you know). I just want to do it because I love the research method it takes to know a character + the emotion, and so on. And if it pays my rent, then I am more than good. Is it easy to find a part-time job in California to settle first? How to get a long-term visa? Does it a long time before I start to work in films?
Just interested! Doesn't have to be one of those big, totally life\-changing moments, can just be something as simple as finishing a show and thinking, "I could do this a thousand times over" :\)
Dear acting community, If there is one thing we can all agree on, it's that booking a job is bloody difficult. Most of the time, its not down to our talent, more, what we look like. *"S/He's good, but they just don't look right"* \- Said many Casting Directors around the world... The industry is making a shift towards self\-taping, meaning people from all over the world can audition for leading roles in LA and across the world. This means we no longer need to relocate to audition! I've made this one step simpler. I've spent the last year and a half building a platform that helps Casting directors easily manage their self tape submissions, and for actors to easily send casting director self tapes! I've called it **Castify** I have the opportunity to pitch Castify to Richard Branson, the found of Virgin, but in order to do so I need loads of votes. Dear acting community, I ask, no, implore you to help me with this venture. I really think I can make a difference in the communtiy and encourage the use of self\-taping so that we are not constrained by what and where we can audition. But of course you are free to help or refuse. The link to cast your vote: [http://www.mycastify.com/vote](http://www.mycastify.com/vote) On that page I have more information about Castify and a video with how it all works. Here is a link to the demo video otherwise: [https://vimeo.com/256286241](https://vimeo.com/256286241) I would really appreciate your support, and would love to tell you all more about it! Max
Hello! I'm looking for actors in LA who'd like to create a sort of relaxed partnership that would allow us to learn from each other. I'd like to learn how to write for the actor, to understand what's helpful, what's redundant etc. when an actor approaches a script, and my aim is for this to be mutually beneficial. With what I gathered from the comments in a [previous post in this sub](https://www.reddit.com/r/acting/comments/8e4gxg/im_a_screenwriter_and_i_have_a_question_thank_you/), actors view screenwriters as perfectionists that are notoriously difficult to work with. But, the big difficulties in our work should be the ones we put our efforts into addressing so that they'll get easier over time, right? Really, the only thing either of us would offer is our respective perspective in the shared objective (and sometimes I rhyme.) I live in Atwater Village and there are a lot of relaxing parks in the area. I'd imagine the meetup to be something casual and fun as much as it would be useful and informative, but it's not just my imagination that we'd have to stick to – I'm open to ideas (And see? Already learning about creative compromise, ha.) So, if you are curious about different ways to improve your artistic expression through acting, let's harness that shared curiosity and start improving! _____ Speaking of curiosity, and if you're wondering, I'm a 31 year old dude. I studied art/physics in college and it shows in the kinda stuff I write. I sometimes write music for my characters, so there can be singing if you'd like. Currently working on a dramedy feature called Dog House that would be fun to play around with. And here's a link to my most recent script (written for a short script competition that I forgot to submit it to) – [*Evergreen U*](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dTn56xvsEEJ7JTCCx7sECgNCx8qwoMbK/view)
other than submission sites like backstage or actors access, is there something else that I should know about? An emailing list of some kind? Am I missing something obvious here? Asking about cattle calls/open casting calls only.
There are a few constraints though - low budget, streaming services not network tv or theatre. If you don't write it - who would you hire to write with? Which actors would you hire and why? What would your character be like?
Anyone know of any good acting or improv classes in LA, the valley?
##Hello! Let's get straight to the... **Questions:** Is it difficult for novice actors to find ways to practice? What kind of roles do actors take before they become professionals? How eager are actors in putting their efforts into unpaid collaborations? NOTE - I'm sure my questions will have many varied answers, so your own subjective opinion will do just fine, no need to generalize. _____ **Bit o' Context:** I've been writing screenplays for the past two years with intentions to move onto film-making/directing. Sometimes I try to act out my dialogue, or record myself performing selected scenes that are easy to shoot, but I'm a terrible actor and I can't watch myself without cringing to death! What I'd really like to do is just hang out with a creative actor so that we could try stuff out together in a way that's mutually beneficial. I'd imagine something like: I bring a short scene I've written to some extremely casual spot where we can chill (like a park or somewhere relaxed [Oh, or IKEA! It would provide all the sets we'd need!]) and the actor could take their time to experiment with different ways to perform and we'd both provide each other with light feedback, like we're both working for each other and having some fun. It seems reasonable to me, but I'm thoroughly familiar with how artists are expected to work for free and how frustrating this can be (rhyming unintentional.) P.S. For anyone who's interested... I live in LA (Atwater Village.) I'm a 31 year old dude. I studied physics/art in college and it really shows in the kinda stuff I write. I mean, basically, my writing is *weird.* Oh, and I sometimes write music for my characters, so there can be singing if you'd like.
So, here's the thing, I'm a 23-year-old [trained](https://www.rada.ac.uk/courses/acting-and-performance/ba-hons-in-acting/course-overview) actor based in London, I have a "[top tier](https://www.reddit.com/r/acting/comments/7kta3d/agents_in_the_uk_my_comprehensive_list/)" agent, I'm currently going to some of the best weekly/monthly classes for professional actors in London ([@ the actors centre](https://www.actorscentre.co.uk) ), my headshots are taken by two of the most highly rated headshot [photographers](http://www.wolfmarloh.com/) in the UK, every now and then [NFTS](https://nfts.co.uk/) or [MET](https://www.metfilmschool.ac.uk/) call me up to be in one of their short films, I'm trying to write a play, my showreel is updated every three months, I'm on a first-name basis with a lot of major casting directors, my CV/spotlight is always uptodate... I mean, seriously, I'm trying to do everything in my power to progress in this industry, and yet, I still feel like, in the past two/three years, I've hardly moved! As in, I'm still getting only two or three auditions a month; despite moving agents (agent I'm with now is the best one, it must be said) almost five times in the past four years, the jobs that I do get are just small bit parts on TV or film, and then the occasional stage job but all in all, if I get two or three jobs a year I'd consider a good year! I understand that, as a middle-eastern actor, there aren't going to be as many opportunities for me as there are white actors (makes sense, there are more white people, I have no beef with that) BUUT I can't help but feel like I'm doing something wrong here, like I'm missing a trick. I've worked on my audition technique with casting directors I know and my agent and they all seem happy with it, so I don't think it's that? Could somebody please give me some pointers because I'm starting to lose my mind a little bit here. Cheers
Hey there my fellow aspiring actors. Lately I was thinking how long is going to take me to make a whole 3min videobook at this pace. And even then it's only for agencies and such. So I thought about faking a videobook. Just filming myself acting in different small scenes made specifically for it. Would that be acceptable? Is it strictly necessary for the videobook to have scenes from short films or any other projects? Honestly I don't think anyone is ever going to ask about them anyway. Please let me know what do you think.
