Default Getting into it

Hey everyone! I just joined this forum to help and get some tips on acting. I myself am a 19 year old in the USAF. I have been in a total of 4 plays, all in high school.
Freshmen year I didn't fit in and worried about what people thought, that changed the next year and I joined Drama Club. Viola, I loved it. From laughing through the two hour rehearsals, to building the set, to performing in front of people, to the cast party, it was all the most fun I have ever had. I have been in the air force for a year and a half, and stupid me signed up for 6 years. The nice thing is it gives me 4 and a half years to keep motivated. I would love to hear about peoples stories, and tips on staying motivated and the tips from the stage, film and movies. I love the stage but I want to eventually get into tv and movies. Being in the military I know I need to start at the bottom rung. But can those who have been in the business for a while give me their input.

First, let me thank you for your service to our country!

Second. You're in the USAF. That means you are used to (or getting used to) many things that will assist you in the future.

You mentioned this: Starting at the bottom. Rank and File. Dealing with 'superiors' in all their glory. You will learn to deal with jerks as well as kind people. You will do things you don't want to, simply because you're being ordered to. It may not make sense to you and you may not have the option to ask questions for clarification. You will learn from the worst as well as the best. This is acting and these are directors.

You'll probably agree all that is in the armed forces, as well.

Good luck and never give up!

Join a decent Stage School or Drama School and build your confidence up.. You may think your amazing or even really confident but beleive me a Stage School helps. Best think to do is not to brag about how good you are but actually show how good you are on stage... There are also lots of methods but you know what I do, I pick my own and its got me far without going to deep. Emerse yourself in the role, learn about the character and when your on stage you will find yourself bringing out the presence of that character. However, I don't ever need to reasearch into depths of the character sometimes I find myself doing it naturally.

Hi Mega,

Many successful acting careers start from high-school. Good luck, I wish you all the best as it is a competitive world out there. I think it would be a good idea to get a degree behind yourself first (Nice to have a plan B)

Regards,
Charlie
