Default Very New

Hey guys

Nice forum by the way. I've read through many of the posts in the "Newbie" section and it seems some are in the same boat I am in.

I am 24 years and recently graduated college with a degree in Communication. I've been really thinking hard about what I want to do with my life. I have always been drawn to acting. I have very little experience though. I was in a commercial when I was younger and was the main character in a short film for a friend. That is it.

I live about 45 minutes from NYC so that helps matters I guess. I am just lost on where to start.

I read somewhere in the internet that free and easy way to practice a little is to print out a script off the internet and practice the line in front of your mirror. I'm going to do that.

Any ideas where to start? Take an acting class? Hook on with a modeling/acting talent agency in NYC?

I've been looking on Craigslist for acting parts in NY. I've also been looking for a good book to read about getting started in acting.

Thanks guys. The whole entertainment industry is so overwhelming right now, but I'm sure it gets easier as you know the ropes.

Craigslist is good, and so is mandy.com, so don't forget to check there. Being near NY is great because there are so many off off off broadway types of productions going on.

Yeah I've heard of mandy.com. I'm going to check that out too. I just ordered Respect for Acting by Uta Hagen.

I want to get into film acting. I guess NY is the spot for theatrical acting and LA for film.

How do you feel about talent agencies?

I would like to take at least one acting class or find an acting coach.

Thanks for the reply.
