| your acting style | | A few weeks ago, I auditioned for Noises Off and on the information sheet I was asked which style of acting I used. Classical, Method, Stansislavsky, other were the choices, but I wasn't sure which one I fit into because I thought most of them blended together. I came to the conclusion that I was a classical actor, which means I prefer the 'outside-in' method of acting. I tried looking online for descriptions of the different styles and how they varied, but maybe you guys know enough about them that you can help me out. I'm curious about other actors' methods of performing, hence this thread.

| Re: your acting style | | Well, I have no knowledge of "Classical" acting, but I can help you out with Method and Stanislavski.
Stanislavski, is basically the founder of what has evolved to the commonly known Method acting. His original work, which is now translated into books, is very hard to understand in our culture. He was from the Russian theater and they did things very different, so his writing are very classical. I'll stop here, unless you have any idea what I'm talking about you most likely don't practice any direct form of Stanislavski.
Method acting, if you've never heard of sense memory, affective memory, substitution or animal excercies then you probably are not a Method actor... Method actors study very specific "procedures" and practice "excersises" on a daily basis to keep their senses and instrument fresh. This has "evolved" moderately as well, so you could be a mix of this and something else, as a lot of others teach some of the practices in "Method" acting. For what it's worth, Robert DeNiro is a "Method" actor...
By elimination or default it would seem by those three choices that "Classical" would be the best fit. But, I don't know if Classical just supposed to mean general acting or if that is a "method" of acting as well...

| Re: your acting style | | I used a piece from noises off in an audition. it's a funny play.
I actually have no idea about different acting techniques, I haven't been taught any as far as I know. or maybe I was taught a little about each in my drama class but wasn't paying attention, too consumed with what my audition for the next play would be like. |

| Re: your acting style | | Hi there Artemis,
Id like to help you, on your question - but i cant .. you see, as for my personal technique - the only method i ever studied was the Strasberg and Stanislavski System .. the Method. Its tough to say what Method fits to what Person. Every Person is different on accessing Roles and Charakters. I was lucky with the Method .. as i tried it .. and it immedeately fit to my Person and my kind of Accessiblity.
Talent is multifarious .. there are many people out there who can develop Emotions out of nothing but their Imagination .. other People develop their Emotions out of reacting on other Actors in a specific Scene .. a third group maybe, would be People who have Problems developing Emotions .. but who are born with such a Fancy for creating Roles, means its physical behavior for example .. And a Fourth Group maybe, would be People who can react on everything, everytime plus having exhaustless Fancyfullness - who cant be "not authentic" as its in their nature .. Marlon Brando for Example .. by the way, the only one ive ever seen or heard of, with such a Gift ..
So its tough to say .. but .. i think, all you have to do .. is to find out what Method or what kind of Acting or Situation, gives you the Best Access to the best Performance and Results ..
Wish you the best! |
