It's funny because I couldn't keep eye contact with people at all for a long time, too. For me, just having lots of experience helped the most. It felt so good a couple of weeks ago that when I was singing for friends, I could actually make eye contact with them. It had become habit. I find "awkward" situations the hardest in making eye contact, but after pushing myself through each scene, I gained more and more confidence. Also, I've seen people act who didn't make eye contact with the other actor the entire scene. It looked really poorly done and made the actress look really bad. So keep that in mind, too. Think of the song "Whistle a Happy Tune" from The King and I..."whenever I feel afraid I hold my head erect, and whistle a happy tune....when I fool the people I fear, I fool myself as well."
