The buzz of the biz | | If you don't love what you're doing, you won't make it far.
Yes, folks, it's true. If you don't absolutely love what you're doing or what you're getting yourself into, you will not ascend the stairs in this biz or get a good paycheck. Good actors (or anyone in any showbiz job) would love to work for just credit (if the credit will serve them well). What do I mean by credit? For those who don't know, a credit is a project that you've worked in that you can put on your resume. For the past three years I have worked solely for credit. I never got paid for community theater. And I am now working for credit in college. One type is that which I may put on my resume, and the second is college credit. I have been selected to be assistant art director for a student run show. We're doing one show in the fall quarter and one in the winter. Why am I working myself to death? I have to. I want to succeed. I hope you lot are doing this as well. Working for credit would be the best kind. Sure money is good, but money doesn't show up on a resume when you're starting out. You, as a beginner, must audition, and credits matter to you. So go for the credit, and since you're not getting paid, I want to reiterate this:
If you don't love what you're doing, you won't make it far.
Live by that; not solely by that, but make love of your work a priority alongside building those credits on your resume.
Wishing everyone's career well,
