actually, I thought that was terrible advice.
how can you improve yourself by mimicking someone on tv? how can you create your own style that way? surely, you can read books on acting, and read scripts, but school allows you many more oppurtunities to work on your craft.

trust me, there's a difference between rehearsing in front of friends and family, and being on stage with a real audience.

I think you have a valid point... You really need to get on stage or in front of a camera with live audience/co-workers and try it out. It's two completely different worlds when you are acting in your living room as opposed to a real audience where you are definately not going to be so comfortable at first.

For newer actors, mimicing what they see on TV or trying their own approach to the text on the screen might help them in the very early stages... but revolt is in that you can't expect to learn a technique by imitation only.

Learning the wrong way from the Scratch is nonproductive .. Acting is about Phantasy and creating out from your own Imagination ... Acting in front of the mirror .. is not the same way as you act for your own without a mirror .. In Front of a mirror keeps you concentrating more on your physics but less on your toughts, feelings an emotions ..

Remember .. the physical expression and behavior will happen by itself, if you concentrate on the given situation, on developing emotions, your enviroment and so on ..

Wish you the best.

I watch films over and over and over....etc...until i have watched everyones reactiosn and actions about one or two times. Then i feel how they do things. I memorize the lines on the many viewings and then spit them back out to the open air and see how my body reacts to the same stimuli. Its fascinating what results you come up with. Because even if you do the same motion that the actor did, with your body it appears in a different way.
Its exciting!

Well, that is certainly a way, but I wouldn't call it the best. We all have our own ways of learning how to act, but imitating another actor is like borrowing a friend's notes ... to a completely different test.
