Default skin care

acne

I suggest seeing a dermatologist instead of spending money on systems like pro-active or murad. The cost of seeing a derm is still cheaper than buying a system if you have health insurance. I should know because pro-active didn't work for me and murad made my face red for days.

minor flare ups, spots

Get Queen Helena's mint julep masque. It has sulfur which helps to dry the spot and reduce the redness. You can find the product at wal-mart for under $5. If you have break outs on your chest or back, neutrogena has a bodywash with salcylic acid which will help clear the skin.

wrinkles

If you're careful about your skin and wear sunscreen, then it's not a problem. I can't really reccommend one because I don't use them, but I've heard good things about neutrogena anti-wrinkle cream. I think it's $9 though.

other

You've heard the sayings about drinking 8 glasses of water a day. I don't ever drink that much. Try for 3 and work your way up. The most I've done was 6 and then I went back to drinking a dr. pepper. Just remember that your skin requires maintainence. You have to wash it and take proper care of it. Just because it's clear today does not mean you won't break out tomorrow.

I drink 1 to 2 liters of water a day

I dont have really bad acne..just break out with little bumps on my forehead during the summer because I work out so much...but I just got Proactiv and it seems to be working.

"Eminence" is a great product (for acne.) I dont use it anymore though since I decided to try Proactiv, which my aesthetician suggested. Aside from that I dont do much skin wise, because I dont have a lot of pimples...and I'm only 17, so I dont have wrinkles.

Nice thread.

I havent tried Proactive yet. However, I have heard from people who have bought the product that it works extremly well and it gets rid of even the most advanced acme. But the cost is a bit high for this product.

Anyone tried it yet?

The problem with pro-active is that your skin becomes so accustomed to it that if you decide to use another product, the break outs come back. There is a book called The Acne Cure which says that you should switch back and forth between salcylic acid and benzoyle peroxide because the first one opens pores and the second destroys bacteria so using them both should work for longer periods of time than just relying on one.

My brother used Proactive for a while and it worked. But, he then stopped using it for a while and face continued to break out again.

How about white heads? I'm thinking of seeing a dermatologist to remove these. But they 're expensive, but it's an investment.

See an aesthetician, they'll squeeze them out for you and clean your face up..I go once every few months; it's around 60 bucks (Canadian), and totally worth it. Your skin basically gets a make over lol.

Sometimes other skin problems can appear as acne such as rosacea. The symptoms are similar but usually get worse with acne treatments. It's a good idea to check with a dermatologists to know for sure what you should be treated for before investing in any pricey acne products.
