union or non union

id join. i want to join equity, but i havent had enough paid work within a year to qualify. im saving all my pay contracts. i do have enough experience in cabaret and variety to join, but i want an actors equity, not variety. (i dunno if there is much difference in the end, but i'll feel better ) | ||

Depends on your level of experience. If you are "ready" for SAG work, and have credits to support that, then definitely join the union. If you need more experience, there is a lot more, and a much better chance of getting, non union work. I'm not a member of Equity, so I'm not sure the pro's and con's there. But as a member of SAG and AFTRA, I can tell you that the AMOUNT of work dwindles quite fast when you join the union, (mostly by people who are known or who have extensive credits) so the competition in that arena really gets intense. yeh thats another thing. once you are union you are competing with all the a through c list celebs. at least when non-union its just other actors on the same level as yourself i dunno. mayeb in time. :P im just enjoying it as it comes. i was on tv on two different shows on wednesday and im on again next week and im filming a movie this week! so it cant be bad:P | ||
