Default What kind of experience is necessary?

Hey everybody,

I know just about nothing about acting or how to get involved and was hoping I could find some helpful advice here. Anyways, down to business: A couple of friends and I are college kids in the LA area and thought it would be interesting to give acting a shot as a side project. None of us have any experience acting, and I was just curious about how much actual experience it takes to get auditions, casting calls, and the like.

Is it absolutely necessary to take acting classes, or go to a reputable performing arts school...or is it possible to get noticed without any of this?

I would really appreciate any advice or information you guys would be willing to offer up.

Errr, well you can't just become famous and I wouldn't suggest doing acting as a "side thing" that right there is a bad thing. Becoming an actor takes your full cooperation and a lot of time and hard work... you need to be completely committed to it.

Going out on audtions is a piece of cake.

Booking work and doing the job well is a lifetime pursuit that requires diligence, patience, hard work and professionalism. So, yes...it is absolutely necessary to take acting classes. No, you will not get noticed if you are not an experienced professional.

I'll break it down in financial terms...a major motion picture shoot costs $700.00 per minute. You not knowing how to do the job is really expensive...as in prohibitively so.

Acting can be a fun hobby and you'll probably meet a lot of cute girls (or guys...?) as you go along, but if you want a real shot at this, the hobbyist mentality ain't gonna fly.

Hope this helps, good luck!
