| Some advice please | | Heres my story. Its nothing special or different then anyone elses, but its mine. I could sure use some advice.
I grew up wanting nothing more then to act and sing. It consumed me, but I was always told I needed to do something better with my life. I am currently attending a university majoring in medicine. However, I'm miserable. This isnt what I want to do. I want to be out there acting and singing and doing what I love. I am already 24 and I feel like my chance mightt be over, like I might be too late to break into the business. I guess I want some opinions of others. I already know what my family thinks.
Much thanks in advance |

Your probably going to be miserable until you give it your best shot.
It's not easy, and it might take you years, but you can always go back
to medicine right?
It's never to late to come out here and try...
I'd go for it. Save up some money and just do it.. |

| Re: Some advice please | | It's never too late in this business. Look at people like Dennis Franz, and the guy from the Shield. They didn't get their breaks until their 30's.
Go with your gut. Don't think this is going to be easy and fun all the time, though (not that you would, but some people have misconceptions). It's about 95% working your ass off with no reward, no love, no positive feedback, no money, crap job, closed doors...and then 5% best time of your life, fun, success. Make sure you do the research and find out everything involved before you take the plunge.
If it's your passion, and it's all you want to do, then the above paragraph won't scare you. So go for it. Good luck. |

| Re: Some advice please | | Perseverance is key! Like Russ said, it's never too late in this racket, but it's going to take time. Remember that it's YOUR life and no one else is going to live it! If someone has a problem with what you're doing, it's their problem, not yours (yes, even your parents.)
There's a saying that the Navy SEAL instructors use during training which I just love..."the only thing that can stop you from being here is you." Drive, dedication and passion go a long way around this business...if you bring that to the table, you're already a success.
Best of luck and remember, you can't fail if you don't quit! |

| Re: Some advice please | | University will always be there to fall back on. My advice is you're only as young as you are now once, and the roles that you find out about now that you wish you could have, will not wait. Opportunities in the biz come and go quicker than in any other job, I think, and you need to be there to snatch them. If you want to be an actor, do your research and get it when the roles you want are there, or... You'll end up miserable with this, too. But no worries, good roles are never that shy when you know how to look for them...
Hope you join the pool of actors, cause you sound like life is boring with medicine... Have some fun. Love life.
Fate Bless,
