| How's it goin? | | How's it going,
I'm new to these forums, and am also new to the world of acting. I have very informal acting experience, through school, and what not. I have just recently become very interested in acting as a career. I'm 21, and live in Texas, currently. What sparked my interested was some studying up on some of the current popular actors such as Vince Vaughn, and Owen Wilson, and saw that they're both 35+, and landed their first roles in movies at 19, or, in Wilson's situation, more like 22. That kind of gave me some hope and let me know that I might have a chance. I was just going to introduce myself here so you all can see where I'm coming from before I post several of my other questions.

| Re: How's it goin? | | Hey Ryan,
I'm not always up on line, but I saw your post just now. I've only started myself about three years ago, but I've been acting off and on due to my personal situation. I split time between NY and Italy. It's a long story. I've done some independent films, industrials, commercials, commercial print, voice-over work, extra work. I had to pretty much feel my way around when I started and I'm actually creating an informational product for new actors like yourself. What are the top three questions that, if they were answered for you, you feel could really help your acting career take off? You can answer that question if you like or just simply tell me what is it that you need right now more than anything else to be successful. The only thing is, that your answer must be something that you can control.
Thanks,
Mackster |

| Re: How's it goin? | | Hey Ryan.... welcome to the world of showbiz, we all know about the show part but as a new actor don't overlook the biz (business) part of showbiz. There is only one way to learn acting and that's by jumping in and doing it. Participate in as many community plays that come your way, attend acting workshops, network with other actors. Go to school on each actor that you meet. The best acting school I ever attended was a weekly 3 hour bus ride that cost me 65 cents. What I did while riding the bus was observe the people geting on and off as we rode down the line. I would write down on my acting pad how people walked, spoke, traits, mannerisms and so on. What that gave me was a collection of characters that I could mimic when needed. Granted this isn''t all that you need to become a good actor but it's a start. Best of luck. |

| Re: How's it goin? | | Welcome Ryan,
I actually wrote a book about acting and the industry that might interest you. The eBook version is completely free (yes, I give this book away) if you want to check it out. There's no catch, no forms, nothing...it really is free and it will give you all the answers you could ever hope for.
Acting professionally is a tough road, but it's doable. I wish you the best of luck in your pursuit, and if you want to check out the book, go to: www.actingreality.com
