Default Hey! new here guys...

whats going on guys!? im 23, im a cal poly grad with a dual degree in Econ and Biology(yes it took me 5 yrs to finish lol). i currently run my own private personal training facility with a couple of employees and ive finally developed the balls to do what iv'e always wanted to do..act~!!!

anyhow, im taking acting classes at a local community college here in nor-cal and im thinking about auditioning for parts pretty soon...aside from some modeling(3 shoots when I was 20 and in college) this acting class is the only experience I have.

What do you guys recommend in terms of how to "start"? keep taking classes and waiting till im comfortable and capable or start auditioning for roles after this class and maybe another? Also, should I look for an agent or try to find roles on my own at first?

thank you in advance for all of your help...it is greatly appreciated! IM EXCITED!

I'd say try it on your own for now. Get at little bit of experience under you before knocking on agent's doors. They'll probably want to know that you're assertive to go to auditions and work and then also to see that you have some talent. You don't need big jobs, I wouldn't think. Small things here and there. Bits as an extra, that sort of thing. Not to say to not go to big auditions, but you do want something to show on your resume. Just understand that all the stars of today had nothing on their resume at one point, too. And don't be scared of rejection. It happens. It's not against you personally, it's just about the wide variety of people that audition for the same role. Just don't get your hopes down.

I haven't broken out into the film industry with my acting yet, but I do know my fair share of info, if you want to know anything else. And if I don't know, I'll help you research it, okay? But yeah, me? I've only done community and school theater, which my best thing was doing Shakespeare. Currently, I'm in my first year of college studying Video Production to be a writer/director/actress. I've written my first play that I'll be trying to direct and act in this summer, and here at my college I participated in our student-run productions company. I was art director for one of the shows and I was used as an extra 5 times. And let me say, it's tempting to want to spike the lens--probably the most difficult habit to boot--and it really taught me a lot. So, yeah extra positions may not sound glamourous, but it's really fun to walk in and out of different scenes. And if you play your cards right in being an extra, you may get to brsuh shoulders with the big heads. One thing leads to another.

So, audition for what you feel comfortable with, and grab every opportunity that may help boost your experience and career. When you have a demo reel, then approach agents. I wouldn't say before. That's my opinion of it.

Let me know if you want to know anything else. I've done a fair share of research. Anything about films. I'm an open book, and like I said, if I don't know, I'll help you find the answer if I have the time.

Fate Bless,
SWK78
