Re: Book to movie adaptions? | | Okay, I'm gonna be staight! I've read alot of books, that soon became movies! I will begin with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, they did a pretty well done adaption, just they skipped one part at the begging, and skipped the ending. Still, pretty well done!
Does anyone here read the "Series of Unfortunate Events" books? Have you seen the movie? If you haven't seen the movie, I suggest you read the books, they're so much better and imformative. The movie was based on the first three books in a thirteen book series. The movie was based on, "The Bad Begginning", "The Reptile Room", and "The Wide Window". And they put this 160-200pg books into one movie. About 130min long, so giving each book a 30min screen time.
I'll start with BB, just terrible, worst of the three. They delete SO many scenes, add SO many scenes, and move the scenes that were in the book all around. One of the best books in the series, was one of the most boringest parts in the movie. To say what they deleted, and what they added, would take forever to say. Being a fan of the series, I was highly dissopointed! They moved the BB ending after the WW, just making it seem stupid to those who read the books! Now, RR, it was a boring book, so this was as well, at it's very BORING parts! They skip stuff that are IMPORTANT later on in the series, like at book 11, the Grim Gratto, anyways. The skip a smell, that becomes important later on (in the book series), they skip Stephono's suitcause, which SOLVES a mystery! They change Stephono's personality COMPLETELY!!! Making him way different!! There's just so much from this book, that it would be another long time to say it all. Now the WW, the best adaption of the three. The skipped alot, yes, but not to the point where it's annoying. Mereal Streep was the best casted actor in this whole movie (Jim Carrey could have played a good Count Olaf, if they didn't change Count Olaf from an evil villain, to a comedy wannabe idiot villian)! One of the best book in the series, makes an okay, sometimes boring, book adaption. Tho, for those who never read the books, they'll still understand most of the storyline, but won't notice stuff that only the reader could have. Like you'll see the letters "V.F.D" in a number of locations through out the movie. If you haven't yet read the books, or haven't saw the movie, I would read the books, then watch the movie. Or else you screwed yourself up on a pretty good story!
I'll write about other book adaptions another time
