| Rent! | | who has seen rent, and what are your opinions of it?
I saw it twice, two nights in a row, and cried both times. I loved it. I always loved that most of the original cast was cast for the movie, and I think they all did a wonderful job taking it from stage to screen. I never saw rent on stage sadly and now I wish I had, it's an amazing musical. |

Wow there are two gay guys in the movie, not a bunch of them.... and not all of the guys have aids...
AND it's called a "musical" for a reason... that's why there is so much singing...

| Re: Rent! | | Why shouldn't it be a bunch of gay guys with AIDS? Gay guys don't get nearly as much spotlight as straight ones. And AIDS is a world wide crisis, makes sense to me that it should be reflected in art.
That said, I loved Rent, despite the fact that it's ridiculously cheesy (i've seen it a few more times, and the cheesy stands out mroe now, but I'm still pro). "Roger" especially made me wince a couple of times...but the music's hot, and it conveys a real feeling of being young disatisfied idealist artists-which is a beautfil thing to be. I love most of the characters. I've never seen it staged, and would love to, as I'm sure it's a totally different experience.
Is musical theater always kinda overracted in that way? I am really asking I havent had the chance to see much of it. |

| Re: Rent! | | Rent is a great movie, but I really hate when people are talking in song to eachother in song (e.g. Coprock lawl). They didn't do it much. but when they did it lowered my positivity on it. And the only reason they have gays, guys with AIDS and all that is to show what irony this world has; and how awful it is. It was a little overacted, and over rated, but I still enjoyed watching it; and seeing Tracie in The Devil Wears Prada was a thrill.
BTW: Tracie plays Joanne.
