JamesLyons is on a distinguished road
Default New Acting Community/Housing in Los Angeles Area

The Artist Collective is a group of artistic people who desire to cast off conventional wisdom and pursue a life centered around creative expression. We are made up of dancers, singers, musicians, poets, movie and theater creative production individuals, writers, and visual and social artists.

Members of the Artist Collective come together as a group united in our love of creative expression, unconventional career choices (Perhaps each sharing a story of their parent's collapse at hearing their choice to pursue a degree with the words, "Creative," or,"Theater" in the title.),enjoying networking with like-minded individuals, and who have a desire to submerge herself/himself into a domestic living condition that is conducive to their art. Musicians and singers need not worry about waking their housemates or having a place to practice, actors need not worry about their roommates mocking their most recent attempt at playing Blanche DuBois, writers can shoot dialog off one another, and painters need not worry about their roommate throwing old, dirty-tan capris on their easel holding the very expensive canvas in Kobold blue.

Networking is a big part of the avenues that lead to public creative expression. The Artist Collective unites people who not only share the same love of an artistic branch (acting, let's say), but also brings people of complimentary skills together (playwrights) thus creating one strongly independent group capable of relying on each other to bring creative works to fruition without the oft times frustrating experience of having your play, your acting ability, your dancing skills dismissed because you aren't in the right circle.

Members of the Artist Collective can proudly enter auditions, clubs, art galleries, performance halls, or managerial offices in order to gain performance permissions and say, "I am part of we." A member of the Artist Collective is validated as a genuine artist because she has been accepted and sponsored by a group dedicated to finding and presenting value through artistic expression. It is also one more group to add to spotty resumes, to school admission forms, or at least your obituary. Consider the prestige awarded authors of the Gotham Creative Writing Program, the comedian who is a member of Groundlings, or the obscure ninety-year old poet who once lived in Greenwich Village with Louise Bryant and Eugene O'Neil.
You as a member are no longer one person against society, but rather one who belongs and who needs no validation from the world that has such a difficult time understanding the desire to create. You are a member of the Artist Collective and we welcome you."

Housing works like this:
We meet up in a group (postings have been out for less than 24 hours, only on craigslist, and we already have 11 interested individuals!) and talk about the group some more, then we all:

Present a rent/bill figure we feel comfortable with.

Fill out forms recording our living preferences:Noise level, social type, behaviorisms we can't stand/desire in a roommate/housemate, etc.

Move in dates, living requirements, etc.

(This allows us to get to know one another, start to feel each other out, and allows us to come together and find the perfect area for us.)

Then we start looking for houses, apartments, and condos near each other in one neighborhood.

Based on the forms we have, we can start pairing people off with potential roommates/housemates (no commitments though)

Once housed we move dependent on our move-in dates with the great comfort of a directory of members living just steps from our home!

Once moved I imagine:
Social get-togethers
Support groups, networking meetings, and event updates
Group sponsored events and showcases
I'll get back to you with more ideas. Remember it's a work in progress!
