Hi all,
I've recently taken a great deal of consideration for acting.
I'm going to explain myself and what I'm like so you all can have a general idea as to who I am and if I can "make it".
All my life I've been told I'm a natural at whatever I do. I'm athletic and at the moment I'm playing for my HS soccer team, and I have the option of playing basketball and football as well, but I chose soccer instead. I'm "hot" or good looking according to girls and I'm well known amongst my peers. You can call it popularity if you want to get all high school on me. I'm also known as being a comedian and always having a great time. I'm a hard worker and a go-getter, and if I want something, I get it. And for the million dollar question, yes, I believe I can act because I know for a fact that I can take on roles of characters and act as if I were them. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Honestly, what triggered me the most to even consider acting was when I thought about what I wanted in life. I'm naturally and all around good at everything, but I could never think of some type of career I wanted the most. I'm very academically geared and I will most likely end up at a T-25 school. But, I honestly don't want that. I don't want to go to a top notch business school and end up working for a nice firm. Sounds nice with the paycheck and all, but it's not what I want.
So mainly, after watching a couple re-runs of The OC, I thought to myself, why not act? It's something that comes natural to me and I KNOW that I could take on the role of Seth or Ryan. * And btw, I would love to act for a show like that. That's something I could really make noise with.

*** I'm not a cocky person or self absorbed. I just want to explain myself to you as much as I can so you can get a clue as to what I'm like. I want to know if I can make it in this biz so I can pursue it or just forget I ever thought about it.

Erm, I'm new, so I'm really bad at giving advice and stuff.

But I'd say, only _you_ can determine if you'll do well in acting. I don't think it's a nice little formula, tick all the boxes, and you're garuanteed to "make it".

But I'm probably wrong. ^-^

First step, take an acting class. Since your in high school, join the drama club. I bet they only do musicals which isn't drama but if it will get you on stage, its a start.

Acting roles require actors in to be of all ages, all athletic abilities, all levels of attractivness and all levels of popularity. Good looks are much better than bad looks of course but that is a dime a dozen. If your popular, you probably have good social skills. This is a plus since networking is a must.


Being a comedian means working hard at writing and performing comedic material. If doing stand up comedy or sketch comedy is something you think you would be good at, do it. Acting gigs will come if your successful.

Hard work is good. Take an acting class to learn how to take on the roles.

. Most T-25 schools have theater programs. I went to NYU. Many acting students double majored in business. I can not recommend more highly attending an acting conservatory particularly one that gives you a college degree. UCLA, USC, NYU, SUNY Purchase and many other schools offer acting as a major and you can double major in business to satisfy the parents.

Thanks for a great response. In my opinion, although it may sound naive since I haven't actually acted yet, acting is sort of all about your social skills and how you can display emotions as well as interpreting them and of course speaking. I want to say more about what I'm trying to get at, but I'm dead tired and you probably get my point.

I think acting really is about becoming the character you are playing. Can you stop being Lit for a while and become Gilbert Grape for the day? I know it's a lot tougher than it seems, but when it's done properly WOW!

I read your post, and i was amazed, as i feel EXACTLY the same way as you do. I have never acted before, but my Auntie and Mum seem to think i could become a famous Hollywood star. I'm very funny according to most, and good looking as well apparently. I remember in school once where we was doing this thing and i somehow managed to turn it into a play, i cant remember how, but i just remember people telling me i should do drama. So yeah, i think me and you are in the same boat. I smiled when i read your post, because it really is exactly the way i feel. I'm thinking on taking classes, and i will be soon hopefully. But you no what? I feel as though i don't need them. I'm not cocky, but i just feel as though im good enough to audition straight away. Mabey im wrong, who knows?
