Tom Cruise started shooting scenes for "Mission: Impossible 3" in Rome on Tuesday by whizzing past the camera in a speedboat.

Fans looked on from a bridge over the river Tiber as the star sped under them to film the third installment in the action-adventure series. All traffic was barred from the historic waterway for the day.

Before stepping into the speedboat, Cruise kissed and embraced actress Katie Holmes on the riverside set. The two became engaged in June after Cruise proposed at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

"Mission: Impossible 3" is directed by J.J. Abrams, one of the creators of ABC's "Lost" and "Alias," and is produced by Cruise and his partner, Paula Wagner.

What do you think about the idea of "Mission: Impossible 3"?

I never did like the 1st one really, but the second one was real good. If Mission Impossible 3 stays inside the storyline of 2, "If Possible" I think it would be more entertaining. Aslong as they don't use that Matrix trick every movie has been using since the Matrix came out.

Im looking forward to it.

Same here, I hope they don't use anything theme matrix. I liked the first and second, hopefully third will be as good.

I'm all for the idea, hopefully Tom Cruise doesn't decide to incorporate any of this scientology BS into the movie

Thankfully, it's no longer directed by John Woo. I dont like the way he direct the action scenes, it's too overacting and unrealistic. Although i credit him for good camera movement and angles.

John Woo is the guy who likes explosions right? lol .. I remember Chris Tucker saying something about him having to love explosions.

this is gonna be a great action movie, the second one was better than the first and hopefully the 3rd'll be better than the 2nd...thats how sequels should be.

I'm not really happy about the start of the Mission Impossible 3 filming simply because I have read that the writers that are working on the project is the same group of writers that were going to be writing the script for the new live action Transformers movie.

I'm bet this 3rd installment will be just as great as the previous two I don't always like Tom Cruise but The Mission Impossible movies are pretty good and I would find it hard to fault. The special effects are great usually and I'm sure we can expect a bigger and better action packed movie
