I responded to another thread in the general forum regarding body types. More specifically, I'm interested in discussing the frame size of men in films. I thought it was worthy of it's own thread. I'm not sure if this is the right category to begin the discussion in. If it's not, please move it to the appropriate category.

See, guys like Pitt and Cruz seem to be rather tiny, around 5'7''. Is this really that common? Why do succesful actors seem so small? Is there something about this body type that is condusive to the camera?

See, I'm about 6'1'' and 220 lbs. I'm very cut. I've occasionally been asked if I was a professional athlete. I get "do you play football?" and "do you play for the Cubs?" like questions from time to time. However, I'm not sure I could ever be in a film because I think I might be too big, even though I'm not "huge", I'm just larger than Pitt and Cruz. Am I mistaken, or are my chances of ever being cast as something other than a "thug in prison" unlikely?

I think it depends on the type of role an individual takes on. Alot of bigger actors usually play big boy rolls, where people tend to be scared of them, but you hardly see them playing in romantic movies like you would find Brad Pitt and others like him. Might be some, but its not common like others.

I really don't think it matters too much.. All depends on what the director/writer and etc are looking for.

If you are good enough and can play multiple roles im positive you will get cast in different movies.

It shouldn't matter too much as far as getting CAST in a role... However, what happens is this, scenario: Vin Deisel auditons for a role as some skinny cracked out guy; he can get the role while he's still jacked but, they will make sure that he's actually willing to lose the weight for the role.

Same goes for skinny guys who want to play thugs, big football players whatever they have to beef up.

It will only hold you back as much as you let it. Just be willing to work on your body in a positive or negative way, whichever the role calls for. Otherwise, your role selection could be limited if you refuse to change your body... It all depends on what your "image" is, and that's why people like Vin Deisel don't lose 70 pounds and play some skinny choir boy.

Brad Pitt is at least 6 feet tall. I don't think it's so much about the height. Some of the shorter actors can seem taller based on how they're filmed in a movie.

After doing some research, Pitt is indeed much taller than I thought he was. He has a smallish frame which makes him appear smaller all around. Most sources around the net have him listed as 5'11'' or 6'. In a quote I read, Clooney thinks he's 6'1''.

Yah, Brad Pitt is not that short.

When I finally saw Mr and Mrs Smith I never realized how tall Vince Vaugh was compared to Brad. Vince Vaughn is like 6'4" and makes Pitt look like a midget next to him.

Exactly. You just simply have to be able to adjust to the role you seek.

Look at Arnold Schwarzeneggar (however you spell it) before he became a politician, he awas a tall actor.

If someone tells you that you're not fit for the role, brush off the remark and walk away. Don't wait for them to give you the lecture on the "perfect" candidate
