OK I will keep this brief
First of all I want to say Hi and I am new to the forum.
Second. I am currently a serving soldier with the British Army looking for a career change and looking for serious but fair advice. If it's harsh so f'ing be it! But keep it real folks.
Bit of Background
I attended a two year drama course when I was 18 but had to abandon the course due to financial difficulty. It was a shame as I had just procured the lead in Hamlet which was my first ever production.
From there I moved to London and carved out a good career as a bartender, gaining a reputation for having excellent people skills.
A short step to University (after a chance encounter with a millionaire in my bar) where I sudied Political Science. 2 years in and Iraq was on everyone's lips. I walked out and into the Army careers office. 16 months later I was in the sandyland getting first hand experience.
It is now nearly 2 years later and the Army is boring me.
I recently got married and discussed with my wife the possibility of going back to Drama School at the age of 27/28.
I often write short stories and script ideas in my spare time and consider myself quite creative.
Does anyone else think this is to late?
I have a various qualifications which I could use to support myself, including being a qualified personal trainer. I am considered a fairly good looking guy (no arrogance, just showing another angle) and was once talent spotted for a modelling angency. Could not go through with it though, the smile swere just to fake!
Can anyone identify any transferable skills?? How could I market myself?
Discipline, punctuality, commitment - bags of it.
Experience? Sorry not here.
How do I handle the question...'why have you left it so late to pursue this 'ambition'?
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks for listening to my epic.
