Aaargh!

Digging straight down to get to the point, I have a school Assignment on Stanislavsky, and his method of Acting, and Teaching, etc.
That's fine and all, but when it comes to doing a Workshop to physically show everyone what his methods were, and why he did them... I'm completely stuck.

Has anyone else had this problem in class? I mean, if it was an improvisation, I could do alot better. But this requires work before hand for me to get a good grade. And it counts as 40% of my term score. [That's HUUUUGE!!]

Digging a little bit further, can anyone give me a workshop or exercise where it conveys Stanislavsky's method of Acting / Teaching.
As long as I have even a small idea of where to go, I can study it and get back on track.
So, if Anyone can help me with this problem, it'd be greatly appreciated.

(P.S. even if you don't (or can't) help me out, I don't mind discussing the class I'm in as a general topic, or something like that. So feel free to post about anything relating to the topic of my school / acting side of my post, as well as my Assignment / Assessment.)

Stanislavski studied acting by studying people. His technique involved a lot of homework and required a detailed psychological profile on every character you play.
The idea is that characters should be like people, and no out of context thinking should be there.. in other words you don't pretend to be the character, you be the character

this requires acting on a sub consious stage. the thoughts we have but do not know about. find out what they are and train your brain to think the character thoughts when acting, without having to bring them in yourself (make them come in linked with the character you design)

Many people connect Stanislavski with Strasberg, but this is not very accurate. Strasberg did train under Stanislavski, but he did it before Stanislavski made his biggest breakthroughs.
For example, Strasberg uses Emotional Recall, a tool that Stanislavski banned from his technique later on, and replaced it with imagination...

I'd follow Peter's advice.. Too be honest I don't personally beleive in following a practioner like Stanislavsky because you should follow your own style and not cream off someone else's. But as its your assignment you obviously have to do it, just make sure your confident on the subject and there are no flawed areas that you do not know about Stanislavsky as it is very particular style of acting and if you miss something people will start getting the wrong idea and wont follow your workshop session very well.


(I teach lots of acting classes but not about drama practioners as I dont think its a great subject what so ever.)
