Default How long is your acting class?

WHOO HOO...SO, I FIGURED IT OUT! i finally figured out how to start a new thread. I would like to think that this type of things happen to the best of us. For those of you that don't know what the heck I'm talking about, I'll fill you in: I had to reply on someone's thread asking for help on how to start a new thread. Now, for those of you who really want me to get to the point here it goes:

I'm really excited about taking acting classes again as soon as I get settled in Miami. I found an acting studio that offers 6 classes for $210 for 2 1/2hrs. This seems like a really good deal as long as I'm getting my money's worth. I cannot recall how long my my other acting classes were.

So, could you guys tell me what you think? What do you think about the length of the class? Also, the class is only once a week. I would prefer to take classes more than once a week, but for some odd reason I cannot locate an acting studio for adults in Miami,FL. So, I have to drive approx. 45mins to get to this studio (that is outside of Miami).

Thanks,
Bri

Well, my acting classes are generally 8 hours long, but that is because I'm getting my MFA. Acting classes of that length are pretty standard. A class that meets once a week is also pretty standard as it gives people who work etc. enough time to rehearse a scene adequately. More frequently then that and you run the risk of some people who work full-time coming into the class unprepared.

I'm also assuming by "acting class" that you mean a kind of scene study class.

It's important to know your long-term training goals. These goals may change as you undertake your acting coursework, but having an idea of how you want to pursue learning as an actor will help you land in teh right place sooner rather than later. If you're just starting out, and are unfamiliar with a range of acting techniques or with your own strengths and weaknesses, you may be better off pursuing short individual courses (either intensive weekends or something that meets a couple of times a week over a few months) to get a well-rounded groundwork and discovers what works for you.
