Question Monologues for Women

Hi everyone,
I have joined an acting school and they wish new members to do a monologue not long after joining.

I did have one that i did in the past from a play called Road but i can no longer find the script book and i can not find it on the net to rehearse it (if anyone knows of this script could you let me know, i loved doing it)

but anyhow, can anyone suggest any good monologues which are suitable for a beginner like me, i have had very little acting experience and trying to choose one is pretty daunting and was wondering if anyone had any that they might have done which might suit my circumstances.

Hi metalcherry,

I'm glad I came across you post. I have a hard time finding monologues as well. I'm also a beginner as well. From your post I gather you're interested in monologues from plays or at least looking for monologues from plays. In this case, I have just searched for monologues form plays on google and have found some nice monologues for women.

I know what you mean when you mention that is hard or a beginner to choose the right monologue. For instance, I've done some Shakespeare monologues, but I'm really interested in film. It is just very hard for me to find a monologue in my age range (20s-early 30s) that's not from an airhead (for lack of another word).

Here are some sites:
The Monologue Database: Monologue Suggestions for Actors

William Shakespeare: Monologues

I hope these sites helped. I'm sorry I don't have any actual suggestions for you. Keep in touch.
Bri

Thank you so much for the help Glad its not just me.
With my new course i have literally been thrown in the deep end as it were. I have only done one monologue in my life for a college audition which i got through reading from a play called Road which is why i was trying to find it but also interested in doing new pieces.

I am really interested in film too but i have a fear i can never "make it my own" i know if i see someone doing something i am familiar with i compare it with what i know hense why i prefer to read from lesser known text.

Thanks for the references, going to check them out and hopefully have something to show my class this week

xx

You're very welcome. I tried to google the play Road, but all I found was this site that has a collection of plays. The plays didn't seem like the ones on the sites I posted on the previous post, but they might be worth a look. You might find a play you feel comfortable doing in front of your class. Here's the site:

Free Plays at Free Drama! Scripts for school and community theatre groups

Good luck in your class!
