Re: new, planning to move to LA, advice? | | I did what you are planning to do about ten years ago. It was over 5 years before I got any kind of paid work. My advice is to come out here with the idea that you are gonna train your ass off. Get into a great acting school. Sanford Meisner Center is where I went (2 years of your life will be GONE to this class, but you will come out "ready")
There is a place called the Actor's Network...you can google them, not sure the address. If you can afford the $50 (?) a month then it's a fantastic resource for actors. You get studio lot info, casting director info, agent info, pretty much whatever you need.
Networking in clubs and "hot spots" is something that I was, nor am currently, good at....I have chosen a different path. But when you get here, people will know them.
Cost of living is pretty expensive. My brother just moved into a studio, and I think he's paying close to $1000 a month.
It's definitely scary to move out here, but once you get here, and once you get acclimated, I'm sure you'll do fine. Bottom line, though, KEEP training. NEVER stop training. The talent pool here is HUGE....your competition is fierce.
Hope that helps. |
